The Antikythera Mechanism
This 2000-year-old Greek artifact represents the world’s first analog computer, used for tracking celestial movements with remarkable precision. Salvagers recovered it from a shipwreck in 1901 near Antikythera. The device contains 30 bronze gears housed in a wooden box, capable of predicting eclipses and planetary positions. X-ray imaging in 2006 revealed additional hidden gears inside, confirming its sophistication rivaled clockwork not seen again until the 18th century.
