Mohenjo-Daro’s Great Bath
This ancient Indus Valley structure excavated in the 1920s points to sophisticated urban planning and ritual practices in a civilization that vanished without explanation. The 12-by-7-meter pool featured waterproof brickwork and nearby wells, forming part of a grid-planned city built 4,500 years ago for approximately 40,000 residents. The site’s advanced sanitation systems rival modern urban planning. Its sudden abandonment around 1900 BC might have resulted from catastrophic floods or foreign invasions.
