The Piri Reis Map

A mysterious Ottoman map from 1513, rediscovered in 1929, shows Antarctica centuries before its official discovery in ways that confuse modern cartographers. Admiral Piri Reis created it using ancient sources now lost to history. The map depicts South America’s coastline with surprising accuracy and shows parts of Antarctica without ice. Some theorists suggest it preserves knowledge from a time before glaciation. Critics argue it simply misidentifies another geographic region.
