Troy’s Real Ruins
Once dismissed as purely mythical, Heinrich Schliemann’s 1870s excavations in Turkey confirmed the existence of multiple layers of a city matching Homer’s Iliad. The site at Hisarlik contains nine settlement layers spanning 3,000 years. Troy VI, dating to 1700-1250 BC, shows evidence of massive walls and a catastrophic fire that aligns with the legendary Trojan War. Gold jewelry and bronze weapons found there indicate it was once a wealthy trading center.
