The Tehran Jet Encounter (1976)

Iranian fighter pilots chased a bright, color-changing object over Tehran. When they got close, their instruments failed, and weapons systems shut down. The object was tracked on military radar and seen by civilians on the ground. It released smaller objects that circled the jets. Pilot Parviz Jafari later described the encounter at a UN symposium. The U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency called this case “an outstanding report” in their files.
