Fruit shipments from South America contained pineapples that looked perfectly normal from the outside. Customs officials cut them open to find hollow cores filled with sealed packages of cocaine. The smugglers carefully removed the fruit’s interior, inserted drugs, then resealed them with yellow exteriors that matched genuine pineapples. A weight discrepancy triggered the inspection.
