14. Battle of Fushimi (1868)
The Battle of Fushimi, fought from January 27 to 31, 1868, near Kyoto, was a pivotal conflict during the Boshin War. The Tokugawa shogunate’s forces, numbering approximately 15,000, faced the Imperial army, which included troops from the Satsuma, Chōshū, and Tosa domains. Despite being outnumbered, the Imperial forces, equipped with modernized weaponry, decisively defeated the shogunate troops. (en.wikipedia.org). This victory accelerated the collapse of the Tokugawa shogunate and paved the way for the Meiji Restoration, marking the end of feudal Japan.
