11. Battle of Mikatagahara (1573)
The Battle of Mikatagahara, fought on January 25, 1573, in Tōtōmi Province, Japan, was a significant conflict during the Sengoku period. Takeda Shingen’s forces, numbering approximately 30,000, faced Tokugawa Ieyasu’s 11,000 troops, which included 3,000 reinforcements from Oda Nobunaga. Shingen’s cavalry executed a decisive attack, leading to a near-total annihilation of Ieyasu’s army (en.wikipedia.org). Despite the defeat, Ieyasu’s survival and subsequent resilience contributed to his eventual unification of Japan.
