28. Archeologists Discovered Harriet Tubman’s Family Home
Harriet Tubman was a leading abolitionist in the years leading up to the Civil War. She helped hundreds of enslaved people escape to find freedom in the North. In 2021, archaeologists claimed that they had found her home. It was where her father lived and where she may have lived as a young child. The site contains artifacts that date to the time when her father would have lived. In fact, archeologists believe it is absolutely his home. The skills she learned from her father likely helped her navigate the marshes and other rugged terrains that she encountered while leading enslaved people to freedom.
