25. This Ball of Thread is 6,000 Years Old
What an amazing archeological discovery! Does this look like a ball of black yarn that may have been sitting in the attic too long? Yes, 6,000 years is perhaps too long for a ball of yarn to be waiting for someone to crochet it into a sweater. This ball of yarn dates back to the Middle Neolithic Period, better known as the Stone Age, and it is so old that the fibers have carbonized. The threads are likely made from nettle or linen, and the yarn itself dates back to around 3900 BCE. Perhaps the “cavemen” of the Stone Age were far less primitive than we believe.
