Chris’s purpose is a 501(c) charity that was started when Walt and Billie McCandless began receiving money from Jon Krakauer’s book, Into the Wild. They decided to redistribute the funds to families in need, mainly on a faith-based foundation. They claim to have chosen religious programs due to their lower recidivism rates.
