Circumstances of His Death
McCandless’ final full journal entry was denoted as “Day 107” and simply said, “Beautiful Blue Berries.” Days 108 – 112 had no words; they were marked only with slashes. Day 113 had no entry at all. On September 6th, 1992, hunters seeking shelter entered Bus 142 and immediately smelled something terrible. As soon as they discovered a “lump” in the sleeping bag, they called for the police, who arrived the next day and were able to narrow down his date of death to approximately two weeks before he was discovered.
