Christopher Gave Himself a New Nickname

He started going by Alex Supertramp because he wanted to leave his former self behind. The Supertramp idea is reportedly inspired by the book “The Autobiography of a Super-Tramp” by William H Davies. After giving his money away and burning his possessions, he was leaving society behind and choosing a new identity, a blank slate. With this act, he gave away the last thing his parents gave him. In his final moments, he reclaimed his name – choosing to sign his death note as Chris McCandless.
