Come and See (1985)

Soviet filmmaker Elem Klimov created this haunting portrayal of Nazi atrocities in Belarus through the eyes of a teenage boy. The camera never flinches from showing the systematic destruction of villages and mass killings of civilians. Young actor Aleksei Kravchenko’s face transforms throughout the film, reflecting the real psychological trauma of war. The film uses actual WWII footage to enhance its documentary-like realism.
