Children played in chemical-laced puddles at Love Canal while corporations knew what they’d buried underneath. Industrial facilities routinely dump hazardous waste into unlined pits throughout North America. The practice created thousands of poisoned communities and cancer clusters. Many neighborhoods had to be permanently abandoned after discovering contamination. Billions in cleanup costs continue decades later while many toxic hot spots remain unremediated.
