Born in Stockholm, Sweden, during the mid-1800s, Sven Hedin became a well-known explorer, photographer, topographer, and geographer focused on Sweden and writer. In fact, he wrote many books, including “My Life as an Explorer” and “The Wandering Lake.” Hedin’s focus during his travels was Central Asia, where he made four expeditions, including the Transhimalaya, a mountain range in China, Nepal, and India. He received several awards, including the Victoria Medal, Founder’s Gold Medal, and the Livingstone Medal. Finally, Hedin is known as the first explorer to travel along the mountain range of Tibet, allowing him to create a map of the mountainous country.
