9. Mau Mau (Kenya)
The Mau Mau uprising erupted in Kenya between 1952 and 1960, as freedom fighters took up arms against British colonial rule. Their struggle was marked by fierce guerrilla warfare, mass arrests, and brutal reprisals. Although controversial, the Mau Mau’s resistance played a pivotal role in galvanizing the push for Kenyan independence. Their legacy, once suppressed, is now recognized as a cornerstone of Kenya’s journey toward self-determination.
