2. Extreme Temperatures
Afghanistan’s climate delivered brutal temperature extremes that challenged soldiers daily. During the summer, troops endured blistering heat—sometimes soaring above 120°F—while wearing heavy body armor and gear. In winter, mountainous regions brought biting winds and subzero temperatures, making even basic tasks painful. These harsh conditions took a toll on health, causing dehydration, heat exhaustion, and frostbite. The relentless weather added another layer of hardship, often hindering operations and testing the limits of human endurance.
