Belgrade has endured multiple bombings throughout its history. During World War I, the Austro-Hungarian forces bombarded the city in 1914, marking the opening engagement of the conflict. In World War II, from April to September 1944, Allied forces conducted 11 bombing raids on Belgrade, targeting infrastructure and military sites, resulting in significant civilian casualties. In 1999, during the Kosovo conflict, NATO’s Operation Allied Force led to extensive bombing of Belgrade, causing widespread destruction and civilian deaths.
