Archduchess Gisela of Austria, born on July 12, 1856, was the second daughter and eldest surviving child of Emperor Franz Joseph I and Empress Elisabeth of Austria. She married Prince Leopold of Bavaria on April 20, 1873, and had four children. Gisela was deeply involved in social and political issues, founding charities to support the poor, blind, and deaf. During World War I, she ran a military hospital in her Palais while her husband served on the Eastern Front. After the revolution in 1918, she remained in Munich and participated in the 1919 elections for the Weimar National Assembly. Gisela passed away on July 27, 1932, in Munich (en.wikipedia.org).
