6. Prince Louis Ferdinand of Prussia
Prince Louis Ferdinand, born on November 9, 1907, was the grandson of the last German Emperor, Wilhelm II. Educated in Berlin, he deviated from his family’s tradition by not pursuing a military career. Instead, he traveled extensively and settled for some time in Detroit, where he befriended Henry Ford and became acquainted with Franklin D. Roosevelt. During World War II, he was expelled from military service by Hitler’s new law restricting the military activities of members of the former Imperial family (the-independent.com). After the war, he became involved with members of the German underground movement, including Claus Schenk Graf von Stauffenberg and Dr. Carl Goerdeler, who were executed after their involvement in the failed attempt to assassinate Hitler in July 1944. Despite his significant political ambitions and connections, his story has received far less attention than other German royals, overshadowed by the tumultuous events of the Nazi era and the subsequent war.
