4. Bat Bombs
During World War II, the U.S. military developed an unconventional weapon known as the “bat bomb.” This plan involved attaching small incendiary devices to hibernating Mexican free-tailed bats, which would be released over Japanese cities. The bats would roost in buildings, and the timed incendiaries would ignite, causing widespread fires. Although the project showed initial promise, it was eventually canceled in favor of the atomic bomb. The bat bomb remains one of the most bizarre and ambitious military experiments in history.
