14. Operation Pastorius’ Incompetent Spies
In 1942, Germany launched Operation Pastorius, deploying eight saboteurs to the U.S. to disrupt war industries. However, the mission was doomed from the start due to the agents’ incompetence. One team member, intoxicated in Paris, boasted about being a secret agent, compromising their cover. Upon landing in New York, the saboteurs were quickly apprehended after attempting to bribe a Coast Guardsman.
