13. Casualties and Aftermath of the Siege
The devastating fire at Mount Carmel resulted in the deaths of 76 Branch Davidians, including 25 children and numerous women, many trapped within the burning compound. Among the deceased was David Koresh, whose body was later recovered and identified. In total, the standoff claimed over 80 lives, including the initial casualties from the ATF raid. The few surviving Davidians were arrested and faced charges ranging from weapons violations to manslaughter. Families of the victims, along with survivors, grappled with profound grief, trauma, and lingering questions, forever impacted by the tragic culmination of the 51-day siege.
