John D Rockefeller
John D. Rockefeller was an American businessman who lived in the 19th and 20th centuries. He was born in Richford, New York in 1839 and went on to become one of the richest men in American history. Rockefeller made his fortune through the oil industry, founding Standard Oil Company in 1870 and building it into a massive monopoly that dominated the industry for decades.
His largest gift was the establishment of the Rockefeller Foundation. In addition to his charity work, Rockefeller was also a collector of art and an avid supporter of scientific research. John D. Rockefeller died in 1937, leaving an estate valued at over $1 billion today.
