14. The Militia of the Faith of Jesus Christ: Disbanded by Authorities
The Militia of the Faith of Jesus Christ was a short-lived military order founded in Languedoc around 1221, during the Albigensian Crusade. Its primary mission was to combat Catharism and support the defense of Amaury de Montfort’s domains. The order was approved by Pope Honorius III, who granted it the right to observe the ordinances of the Order of the Temple of Solomon. However, the papal legate Conrad of Urach intended to disband the order once it was no longer needed, and in February 1221, he ordered that all lands granted to it should revert to the donors.
