11. Knights of Saint Thomas of Acre: Destroyed by Enemy Conquest
The Knights of Saint Thomas of Acre, established around 1191, were an English military order dedicated to tending the sick and wounded, as well as defending the Crusader cause. Their hospital in Acre was dedicated to St. Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury. The fall of Acre to the Mamluks in 1291 forced its members to retreat to Europe, where the order’s influence and activities significantly diminished (en.wikipedia.org).
