Ancient Timekeeping Devices
Water clocks in ancient Greece, known as clepsydras, measured time through carefully regulated water flow. These devices could trigger bells or whistles at predetermined intervals, serving as ancient alarm clocks. Plato reportedly used one to signal lecture times at his academy. These sophisticated timepieces remained the most accurate way to measure hours until the invention of mechanical clocks.
