8. Aberfan: Ignored Coal Tip Warning
On October 21, 1966, a massive coal tip collapsed in Aberfan, Wales, engulfing Pantglas Junior School and surrounding homes. The National Coal Board (NCB) had been warned about the tip’s instability, especially its location over a natural spring, but dismissed these concerns.
