11. Nero Had a Statue Taller Than the Statue of Liberty
Emperor Nero commissioned a massive bronze statue known as the Colossus of Nero, which stood approximately 103 feet tall—surpassing even the modern Statue of Liberty (excluding its pedestal). Originally placed at the entrance of his extravagant Domus Aurea, this towering statue depicted Nero himself as the sun god, radiating immense power and divine status.
Its sheer size and symbolism demonstrated Nero’s immense ego, as he sought to immortalize himself in a godlike form. Though later emperors modified and relocated the statue, it remained a lasting symbol of imperial extravagance and arrogance long after Nero’s reign ended.
