1. Operation Northwoods
In the early 1960s, the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff proposed Operation Northwoods, a series of covert plans aimed at creating pretexts for military intervention in Cuba. These proposals included orchestrating false flag attacks on U.S. soil, such as staging assassinations of Cuban exiles, faking a Cuban air force attack on a civilian airliner, and even sinking a U.S. ship in Cuban waters to blame on Cuban sabotage. The objective was to generate public support for an invasion of Cuba by manufacturing the appearance of Cuban aggression. These plans were ultimately rejected by President Kennedy, and the details remained classified until their declassification in 2001, which shocked the public and sparked widespread controversy.
