Baruch Spinoza sought to understand and love God (or Nature) intellectually through rational contemplation. This Dutch philosopher found joy in recognizing the interconnected necessity of all things. People discover purpose by developing a clear understanding that frees them from passions and confusion. Spinoza valued the intellectual love of God expressed through ethical living and philosophical insight.
