7. Francis Scott Key
Francis Scott Key, renowned for composing “The Star-Spangled Banner,” owned enslaved individuals and defended slaveholders’ rights as an attorney. He was a founding member of the American Colonization Society, advocating for the relocation of free Black people to Africa.
