Musician David Bowie’s last public appearance was at the Theatre Workshop in New York on December 7, 2015. He showed up for the premiere of his musical, ‘Lazarus.’ It was later revealed that Bowie had been suffering from liver cancer for over a year. He was aware that the disease was terminal. The theme of death runs through his final album ‘Blackstar.’
This suggests that he had come to terms with his own mortality with grace and humor. The album is considered an inspiration to many of his fans. David Bowie’s family chose to keep his funeral private. The funeral took place on January 12, 2016, at the Woodlawn Cemetery in New York. A tribute concert for him was held at Carnegie Hall in New York on March 31, 2016.
