This photograph from 1991 is one of the last images of Freddie Mercury, the lead singer of Queen. Until the end, he denied rumors about having AIDS. He chose to avoid the media attention and focus on his career. However, the day before his death, he released a statement confirming that he had AIDS. He had kept this information private to protect the privacy of those around him.

But he felt it was time for his friends and fans to know the truth. He expressed his hope that everyone would join in the fight against the disease, and that his policy of privacy would continue. Sadly, less than 24 hours after releasing this statement, Freddie Mercury passed away from broncho pneumonia, a condition brought on by AIDS.
