Abraham Lincoln
Abraham Lincoln was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. He is best known for his leadership during the Civil War, and his advocacy for the abolition of slavery. Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, a Confederate sympathizer.
He was attending a play at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., when Booth entered the presidential box and shot him. Lincoln died the following day, April 15, 1865, at the age of 56. This photo of Abraham Lincoln was taken sometime in March, 1865. He was the first of four American Presidents to be assassinated while in office.
