12. Shoshone
The Shoshone, often called the “Snake People,” skillfully adapted to the varied landscapes of the Great Basin and beyond. Sacagawea, a notable Shoshone woman, famously assisted the Lewis and Clark Expedition, exemplifying her people’s adaptability and knowledge. Today, the Shoshone continue to embody resourcefulness, maintaining traditions and a strong connection to their ancestral lands across several western states.
