5. Poverty Point (Louisiana)
Poverty Point, located in northeastern Louisiana, is a prehistoric earthwork complex constructed by the Poverty Point culture between 1700 and 1100 BCE. The site features concentric semicircular ridges and massive mounds, including Mound A, which stands 72 feet tall. Serving as a center for trade and community life, Poverty Point was part of an extensive network that spanned hundreds of miles.
