8. Operation Anaconda (2002)
Operation Anaconda marked one of the first and largest set-piece battles of the Afghanistan war. U.S. and allied forces launched an ambitious assault against entrenched al-Qaeda fighters in the rugged Shah-i-Kot Valley. The operation exposed the difficulties of mountain warfare—challenging coordination, fierce resistance, and extreme terrain. It ultimately forced a tactical evolution for coalition forces.
