6. Battle of Wanat (2008)
In the remote mountains of Nuristan Province, U.S. soldiers at a small outpost were confronted by a massive Taliban assault. The ferocity of the attack pushed defenders to their limits and resulted in significant casualties. This engagement prompted the U.S. Army to reexamine its tactics and methods for building and defending remote bases.
