Him and Her, President Lyndon B. Johnson’s beagle pair, were beloved companions during his administration. In April 1964, during a press event, Johnson lifted Him by the ears to encourage him to bark for photographers. This act sparked public outrage, leading to numerous complaints from animal rights groups.
