11. Commodus (Roman Empire)
Commodus, who reigned from 177 to 192 AD, is infamous for his self-indulgent and extravagant lifestyle. He frequently participated in gladiatorial games, sometimes fighting in the arena himself, and spent vast sums on these spectacles. His obsession with personal pleasure and disregard for the empire’s finances contributed to Rome’s decline. Commodus’s reign is often cited as a turning point that ended the Pax Romana, the period of relative peace and stability in the Roman Empire.
