6. Led by Colonel Christopher Greene
Colonel Christopher Greene, a respected officer, commanded the 1st Rhode Island Regiment with fairness and valor, standing steadfast alongside his men in every battle. His leadership was pivotal to the regiment’s discipline and courage. Under his command, the regiment successfully defended Fort Mercer at the Battle of Red Bank in 1777 and played a significant role in the Battle of Rhode Island in 1778. Tragically, Colonel Greene was killed in action at the Battle of Pine’s Bridge in 1781.
