4. Ethiopia vs. Italy
In 1896, Ethiopia achieved a remarkable victory over Italy at the Battle of Adwa. Emperor Menelik II’s forces, numbering between 73,000 and 120,000, confronted an Italian army of approximately 17,700. Utilizing superior numbers and knowledge of the terrain, the Ethiopians decisively defeated the Italians, who suffered over 6,000 killed and 3,800 captured. This victory preserved Ethiopia’s sovereignty and halted Italy’s imperial ambitions in Africa.
