6. Policing the Underground
The Transit Police faced an immense challenge in their efforts to curb crime and restore order in the chaotic subway system. In response to escalating violence, increased patrols and strategic initiatives were introduced to reassert control. Officers, often outnumbered and under-resourced, patrolled the labyrinthine tunnels and stations, determined to make a difference. Their presence became a reassuring, albeit limited, deterrent against crime. Despite these efforts, the scale of the problem required more than just policing—it demanded systemic changes and collaboration with community stakeholders to effectively address the underlying issues.
