9. U.S. Military Involvement
On January 16, 1893, U.S. Marines landed in Honolulu, ostensibly to protect American citizens and property amidst rising tensions. However, their presence tipped the balance of power decisively in favor of the Committee of Safety. Stationed near government buildings, the Marines’ silent threat made resistance nearly impossible for the monarchy’s supporters.
