5. Krakatoa Eruption (1883)
In August 1883, the eruption of Krakatoa between Java and Sumatra produced one of the loudest sounds ever recorded, with shockwaves detected around the world. Over 36,000 people died, mostly from tsunamis the eruption triggered. Its global impacts included dramatic sunsets and years of climate effects.
