1. RMS Titanic
The RMS Titanic, a British luxury passenger liner, embarked on its maiden voyage from Southampton to New York City on April 10, 1912. On April 14, it struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic, leading to its sinking on April 15. Approximately 1,500 of the 2,200 passengers and crew perished. The disaster spurred significant maritime safety reforms. The wreck was discovered in 1985 by Robert Ballard, lying at a depth of about 12,500 feet (3,810 meters).
