Spain’s former dictator, Francisco Franco, left behind grandchildren who remain active in Spanish society, including aristocratic circles. The Franco family has been involved in legal controversies over family assets and the public memory of the regime. Notably, in 2022, Spain abolished 33 aristocratic titles granted by Franco, including those held by his descendants, as part of a new “Democratic Memory” law (euronews.com).
