1. The Stono Rebellion (1739)
In 1739, enslaved Africans in South Carolina launched the Stono Rebellion, the largest slave uprising in the British mainland colonies.
Armed with stolen weapons, the rebels marched toward freedom, rallying others to their cause before being violently suppressed by colonial forces. Though brutally crushed, the uprising sent shockwaves through the colonies, leading to harsher slave laws but also inspiring future acts of resistance.
